Ethical Frameworks for AI-Assisted Architectural Decision-Making

Mohammad

Abstract

As architecture enters the era of algorithmic co-authorship, the profession must navigate a complex ethical terrain shaped by artificial intelligence (AI)meaning computer-based programs that can identify patterns, make decisions and produce language content (Russell & Norvig, 2020). This paper investigates the emerging challenges posed by AI tools in architectural design-ranging from data bias and cultural homogenization to authorship disruption and ecological concerns. Utilizing a qualitative approach integrating an inter-disciplinary literature review, five structured case studies and a synthesis of ethical theory, the paper critiques existing frameworks and proposes a multi-layered model titled S.C.A.L.E. (Situatedness, Co-Creation, Accountability, Localization, Eco systemic Responsibility) to guide ethical Al adoption in architecture. It concludes by offering strategic recommendations for designers, educators, policymakers, and developers to foster an inclusive and just architectural future.
